Alberta promises to monitor air faster after fires

Edmonton - Alberta Environment plans to have a quick-response air-monitoring unit ready by next month, after it took hours to find out whether an Edmonton fire was spewing out toxins.

The unit would allow crews to reach fires � such as Thursday's blaze at a waste-management plant that deals with hazardous materials � much sooner, a departmental spokesman said Friday.
