Algonquin Wolves To Be Protected At Last

Toronto, Canada - Ontario's Ministry of Natural Resources has announced a proposal to permanently protect the wolves of Algonquin Park, and develop a provincial wolf conservation policy.

The proposal announced by Natural Resources Minister David Ramsay on March 3rd includes all the key points that CPAWS has been pressing for over the years. If implemented the proposal will:

- permanently prohibit hunting and trapping of wolves and coyotes, year-round, in the 39 townships surrounding Algonquin Park
- ban chasing wolves and coyotes with dogs in the same area
- officially recognize the Eastern wolf's national designation as a Species of Special Concern on Ontario's list
