Australia pledges A$1 bln to Indonesian recovery

Jakarta, Indonesia - Australian Prime Minister John Howard on Wednesday pledged A$1.0 billion (US$765 million) over five years to Indonesian tsunami reconstruction and development.

"It is the single largest aid contribution ever made by Australia," Howard told reporters after meeting Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono in Jakarta ahead of a one-day world leaders' conference on the Asian crisis on Thursday.
