Cabinet Votes to Buy Marshland |
Tallahassee Florida - Gov. Jeb Bush and the Cabinet voted Tuesday to buy 13,000 acres of untouched marshland along the Panhandle's Crooked River, paying The St. Joe Co. $14.5 million.
The land stretches for 20 miles along the river, which snakes along the coast south of Tallahassee in Franklin County. It will be added to Tate's Hell State Forest to the west.
Environmentalists see the purchase as key to protecting wildlife like black bear, and most of Tuesday's discussion focused on hunting rights in the area.
