Conservation, years of luck renew salmon runs
Redding, California - Clear Creek winds through a greenstone gorge where the fall-run salmon are just beginning to arrive. The air is crisp and the stream runs fuller since an 18-foot dam up the canyon was ripped out, the exclamation point in an ongoing 10-year effort to restore this damaged stream.
Behind a partially submerged boulder, a pair of 15-pound fish hold. Upstream, more of the torpedo shapes are easy to spot along a swift run and in the deep pools.
