DNA Map Of Elephants Helps Combat Ivory Poaching

Africa - Researchers at the University of Washington have developed a tool to combat the illegal ivory trade. They say a DNA map of elephant herds in Africa can be used to identify poaching hot spots where enforcement should be increased.

Led by biologist Samuel Wasser, the team took DNA from elephant droppings and skin biopsy samples collected from a variety of locations in 16 African nations.
