Economy Canada: Suddenly the tempo is upbeat

Canada - There was much chatter about the strong dollar, concern exporters had their hands tied by currency woes and a few sharp barbs that the Bank of Canada was once again far too optimistic about growth.

But what a difference a single report can make.

The release of the Canadian job numbers surprised the markets in "dramatic fashion" last week as the unemployment rate dropped to 7.6 percent in October from 8.0 percent the previous month. Some 65,000 new jobs were created, including only 3,000 part-time, with business and the public sector almost evenly split in the hiring.
