EU Agrees Deal on Punishing Ship Pollution |
Brussels, Belgium - EU member states backed tough measures against ships polluting European waters on Thursday to try to head off any repetition of a disaster in 2002 that caused one of Europe's worst oil slicks.
The deal reached by EU ambassadors will be sent to ministers for formal approval later this month, said a diplomat from the Netherlands, which holds the EU's six-month rotating presidency.
