European Satellite To Boost Weather Forecasting And Climate Research |
Baikonur, Kazakhstan - The most complex Earth observation satellite ever to be placed into orbit is to be launched next week as part of a 15-year European programme to improve the accuracy of weather forecasting and our understanding of climate change.
That will make "a huge contribution to global weather forecasting and climate monitoring capabilities", it said.
Being able to predict the weather reliably can help mitigate the effects of extreme weather conditions -- which appear to be on the increase -- and therefore save lives.
