‘Fox News North’ has dropped their bid for forced access to cable fees

October 14, 2010
"There’s no doubt that part of this is overreach on the part of Pierre Karl Peladeau and his junkyard-dog front man Kory Teneycke. But mostly it is a huge victory for every Canadian who took time to write, email, phone or other wise protest this grotesque plan to move Canadian political culture to the far right."
- Murray Dobbin, Blogger for Vancouver Sun

CANADA - Quebecor Inc. says it’s no longer pushing for a special licence that would compel carriers to offer the proposed SunTV 24-hour news channel to customers.

The company says it won’t pursue a special exemption licence — known as “must-carry” or “must-offer” — for SunTV, and will write to the federal regulator within days to withdraw their request.

That means SunTV, dubbed Fox News North by rivals, won’t be considered as a must-carry channel to be delivered to all Canadians.
