Berlin, Germany - Sixty years after the end of World War II and after 17 years of opposition and debate, thousands of stark, gray slabs were commemorated Tuesday as the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe, Germany's first official Holocaust memorial.

Paul Spiegel, president of the Central Council of Jews in Germany: "This and other monuments are a warning to keep up the fight against anti-Semitism, so nothing like this can ever happen again,"
