Hate-crime rate down in 2002
Florida - The state's incidence of hate-related crimes was down 8.7 percent in 2002 over the year before, Attorney General Charlie Crist announced Thursday.
The reduction reversed a sharp spike in crimes targeting people based on their race and ethnicity in the aftermath of the previous year's terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, Crist said.
