Japan loses whale bid at U.N. wildlife trade talks

Amsterdam, Netherlands - A United Nations wildlife meeting rebuffed a Japanese bid on Wednesday to review protection for whales, which was seen as yet another attempt by the Asian nation to reopen trade in whale products.

Environmentalists credit the 1986 ban for saving Earth's largest creatures from extinction.
