Kroc giving $1.5 billion to Salvation Army

San Diego, California - The Salvation Army will receive a gift in excess of $1.5 billion from the late Joan Kroc, widow of McDonald's founder Ray Kroc, the agency announced Tuesday.

It's the largest single donation to a charitable organization, according to news reports. Kroc, who died Oct. 12, had already bequeathed hundreds of millions of dollars to other nonprofit groups.
