Maldives moves towards multi-party democracy

Colombo, Sri Lanka - Maldives today took an unprecedented move to establish a multi-party democracy with the country's parliament unanimously agreeing with President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom to allow multi-party politics.

"The president will now issue a proclamation passing the new legislation into law at the next first working day on Sunday," Shaheed said.
