Massive boost for North West recycling |
Manchester, England - A record 100m pounds will be invested into recycling and waste initiatives in the Greater Manchester area, in what is to be the single biggest waste disposal contract award in Europe. The funding will be used to improve waste management services and facilities.
The Greater Manchester area creates around 5% of England's municipal waste, yet recycled and composted just 10% during 2002/03. The ambitious remit of the new investment includes raising the recycling rate to more than 50% by 2020 and reducing the area's dependence on landfill sites.
