Mauritania criminalizes slavery

Nouakchott, Mauritania - Mauritania's national assembly has adopted a law criminalizing slavery for the first time.

Under the new law, voted unanimously late on Wednesday, people convicted of acts of slavery will risk between five and 10 years in prison.
