Mission accomplished: NASA probe strikes comet

Pasadena, CA - NASA scientists are celebrating, after their space probe hit its comet target early Monday, igniting a dazzling fireworks display.

The Deep Impact probe hit the surface of the Tempel 1 comet at 1:52 a.m. ET, about 134 million kilometres from Earth, according to mission control at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena.
