‘No mercy’ for illegal loggers in Indonesia: president

Jakarta, Indonesia - Indonesia's president pledged to wage war against deforestation, promising harsh penalties for officials involved in the illegal logging that continues to destroy massive areas of woodland annually.

Both foreign and Indonsian perpatrators must be "severely punished" as they cost the country millions of dollars, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said on a visit to the Borneo island province of East Kalimantan, one of the hard-hit areas.
