Ottawa on track to ban trans fats
Ottawa, Canada - Canada is on a path to ban artificial trans fats despite charges it would "assault the entire food industry" by taking on such favourites as doughnuts and home-baking.
Members of Parliament voted 193-73 Tuesday to give the government one year to introduce either new rules or new legislation that "effectively eliminates" trans fatty acids, the cholesterol-raising fats linked to heart disease.
