Whistleblowers help uncover 18 corruption cases

Bhutan - On December 9, 2004, the Royal Audit Authority (RAA) launched a fraud alert system on its website encouraging whistleblowers to report on cases of corruption in the country. The system seems to be working.

Within a year whistleblowers reported 18 cases against several individuals and organisations on irregularities and related frauds in tendering, misuse of public resources for personal benefit, mismanagement of public institutions, fraud in engineering, administrational lapses in dzongkhags and gewogs, nonpayment of bills, misuse of public properties, fraud in travel ticketing, and unfairness in government house allotments.
