SmartPlanet, Mon January 02, 2012, comments (0)
The disruption of higher education just got very interesting. It appears that the disruptors — private, online universities — are being disrupted at their own game. One of the pantheons of traditional on-site learning, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, has announced it will be launching online courses that will be free and open to the world.

New discovery could lead to better artificial hips

GizMag, Thu December 29, 2011, comments (0)
For many people who have suffered from an arthritic hip, the replacement of their natural hip bone with a prosthetic implant has meant an end to constant pain, and the restoration of a normal range of movement. Unfortunately, the ball-and-socket joints of the prostheses do wear down over time, so younger patients in need of the implants are typically told to either wait until they are older, or must face the prospect of someday requiring repeat surgery to service their device.

New plasma “brush” may mean painless cavity filling

GizMag, Mon December 26, 2011, comments (0)
We've been keeping an eye on efforts to make the dreaded dentist's drill a thing of the past for some time, and now there's more good news on the horizon for the cavity-prone (and pain-phobic). Engineers have successfully lab-tested a plasma "brush" that can painlessly clean and prep cavities so well, there's no need for mechanical abrasion prior to filling.

thoughts: I’m trying to do what I think needs to do to get through this difficult time in our evolution as a species - and that is to share inspirational true stories.

So many people I talk to feel ineffective in their ability to make the world better by responding to the problems that need to be addressed with positive action. I believe that part of the reason is because they look around and don’t see other people in their lives or those shown in mainstream media stepping up to the plate and doing good.

What’s I believe is important in this world is to realize that every one of us needs to do their part in order for positive change to happen. Even if that part is to influence something bigger then oneself to take action - like, for example, writing a letter to a government body that is capable of creating massive change through legislation.

The Great News Network exists to provide that often missing piece in mainstream media - deliver news stories of positive change happenning here and now.

Get inspired.
