Hong Kong's world-famous Victoria Harbour won a reprieve from developers Friday when the city's top court ruled against a government plan for a big land reclamation project.
The court said the waterway, still graced by sailing junks and criss-crossed by the Star Ferry, was a natural heritage site that must be preserved.
The harbour, overlooked by serried skyscrapers set against a backdrop of steep hills, has become a symbol of Hong Kong, and also gave it its name. In Chinese, Hong Kong means 'fragrant harbour'.
