Alan Rabinowitz was on a routine mission deep inside a Burmese jungle when news reached him about the attack.

He'd hardly emerged from the Burmese jungles before he flew to Brazil, where he's working on another project -- the establishment of a "genetic corridor" for jaguars from Mexico to Argentina.
