A Swiss museum is returning nearly 1,500 artifacts to Afghanistan after they were sent into exile to save them from destruction during the country's conflicts.

Bucherer is flying to Kabul to attend the handing over of the collection - which includes jewelry, documents, (and) a foundation stone laid by Alexander the Great ... to the National Museum in Kabul.

"I'm more than happy that they are going home, as this was the intention from the beginning - to provide only a temporary safe deposit." - Paul Bucherer-Dietschi, Afghanistan Museum-in-Exile director
