Thousands welcome Viking longship

More than 1,000 years after marauding Vikings invaded the British Isles, a replica longboat recreated one of the epic sea voyages undertaken by the Scandinavian warriors.

Diarmaid Murphy, a marine biologist from Bantry, Co Cork, said the voyage was a life-changing experience.

"In Denmark, we are certainly proud of the ship, but we are not proud of the damage done to the people of Ireland after the Viking invasion ... However, the warmth you have shown us today shows us that all has been forgiven." - Brian Mikkelsen, Danish culture minister
